EU-Turkey Statement (74)
The 2016 EU-Turkey Statement had devastating consequences for the human rights of tens of thousands of people seeking protection. It trapped them for years in appalling conditions on the islands, and demonstrated how dangerous border procedures and the concept of the “safe third country” are for refugee protection. RSA systematically monitors its impact on refugees’ rights, highlighting violations, the undermining of the asylum procedure, and the risks of concluding similar agreements with third countries.

Joint Letter: Repeal the national list of safe third countries
Refugee Support Aegean (RSA) and PRO ASYL call upon the European Commission to immediately launch infringement proceedings against Greece regarding systemic violations of international and EU law, stemming from the arbitrary rejection of asylum applications based on the “safe third country” concept and from the prevention of refugees’ access to asylum procedures.
