{"id":6726,"date":"2019-12-01T18:53:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-01T15:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rsaegean.org\/?p=6726"},"modified":"2020-07-03T13:54:57","modified_gmt":"2020-07-03T10:54:57","slug":"prosecutor-requested-the-conviction-of-taner-kilic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rsaegean.org\/en\/prosecutor-requested-the-conviction-of-taner-kilic\/","title":{"rendered":"Prosecutor in Turkey requested the conviction of Taner K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7 and 5 other human right defenders on the allegation of \u201cmembership of a terrorist organization\u201d &#8211; RSA requires the cessation of their criminal prosecution"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\">[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On 27 November 2019, the State Prosecutor requested the conviction of Taner K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7 on the allegation of \u201cmembership of a terrorist organization\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>At the 10th hearing of the \u201cB\u00fcy\u00fckada case\u201d -named after the Turkish island of B\u00fcy\u00fckada where human rights defenders were arrested during a meeting in a hotel in 2017- Prosecutor requested the conviction of <a href=\"https:\/\/rsaegean.org\/en\/solidarity-statement\/\">Taner K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7<\/a> on the allegation of \u201cmembership of a terrorist organization\u201d and 5 other human rights defenders on \u201cassisting a terrorist organization without being a member\u201d and\u00a0call for jail term of up to 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers of human rights defenders criticised the request and argued that the prosecution has not just failed to present any credible evidence, but also failed to provide any relation between the allegations and accused. Amnesty International\u2019s Secretary General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/news\/2019\/11\/turkey-amnestys-exdirector-and-honorary-chair-must-be-acquitted-in-absurd-terror-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called the charges as \u201cabsurd\u201d<\/a> and Amnesty International underlines that \u201cthe prosecution has failed to produce any evidence of criminal wrongdoing, let alone \u2018terrorism\u2019, during more than two years of this prosecution\u201d. The next hearing of B\u00fcy\u00fckada Case will be held on 19 February 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Taner K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7 and other human rights defenders are accused of plotting a coup attempt at a hotel in 2017.
