At a time when <\/span><b>authoritarian politics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the re-election of <\/span><b>Donald Trump<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the rise of the<\/span><b> far-right<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, growing <\/span><b>social inequality<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the dominance of <\/span><b>populism <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in public discourse and <\/span><b>attacks on human rights <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cast a dark shadow over democracy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In light of these developments and the ongoing weakening of institutions in Greece, Greek <\/span><b>Civil Society<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> leads a pressing fight to safeguard the Rule of Law and to strengthen transparency and accountability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Independent organisations <\/span><b>Greek Council for Refugees<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (GCR), <\/span><b>Hellenic League for Human Rights<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (HLHR), <\/span><b>HIAS Greece<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Homo Digitalis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Refugee Support Aegean<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (RSA), <\/span><b>Reporters United<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Solomon<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Vouliwatch<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, submitted <\/span><b>for a third consecutive year a <\/b><b>joint report<\/b><b> to the European Commission on the Rule of Law in Greece in 2024<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as part of the annual monitoring of national systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We demand <\/span><b>a clear shift in the European Commission&#8217;s approach<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, focusing not on \u201ccommitments\u201d or \u201cintentions\u201d of the state but on an accurate depiction of the situation in the country. <\/span><b>Systematic violations of fundamental principles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Rule of Law <\/span><b>cannot <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">be treated as <\/span><b>isolated incidents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-12bcb04 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"12bcb04\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><b>We invite you to the Press Conference<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which will take place on <\/span><b>Tuesday 4 February<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at <\/span><b>11:00 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a.m. at the <\/span><b>Athens Bar Association<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
