Greece <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">group<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of cases. The Committee of Ministers is responsible for supervising the execution of the European Court of Human Rights judgments. The Greek government has requested the Committee to end its supervision.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our contribution urges the Committee to continue monitoring the country\u2019s compliance with the right to liberty in light of persisting evidence of deficiencies in immigration detention, as:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greece systematically orders pre-removal detention against newly arriving asylum seekers with well-founded claims, originating mainly from Syria and Afghanistan where removal is neither legally nor practically feasible.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a generalised lack of linguistic assistance and a complete absence of free legal assistance from the state to detained persons, resulting in less than 1.5% of removal orders appealed before the Hellenic Police and less than one in five<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">detention orders challenged before the courts through \u201cobjections against detention\u201d.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8fbf71c e-con-full e-grid e-con e-child\" data-id=\"8fbf71c\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ecd4f89 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget-mobile__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-html\" data-id=\"ecd4f89\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"html.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/19938504\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><noscript><img src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/visualisation\/19938504\/thumbnail\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"chart visualization\" \/><\/noscript><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fb0222d elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget-mobile__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-html\" data-id=\"fb0222d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"html.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/19939195\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><noscript><img src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/visualisation\/19939195\/thumbnail\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"chart visualization\" \/><\/noscript><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8f21489 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8f21489\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Serious concerns prevail in relation to the effectiveness of judicial review against detention orders, not least due to extreme disparities between decision-making in objections (over 40% of orders quashed) and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ex officio <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">review of prolongations of detention orders (only around 0.5% of orders quashed). Crucially, both types of review are performed by the same courts based on the same legal
